Minot High earns top spot in WDA preseason tennis poll

BISMARCK – West Region Tournament defending champion Minot High earned 46 points and four first place votes to grab the top spot in the annual WDA preseason boys' tennis poll. This marks the 50th season of WDA-sponsored play. Mandan was second in voting with 43 points and three first place votes. Both teams bring back a loaded lineup of experienced players. Last year's WDA regular season champion Bismarck Legacy was third with 40 points. The Sabers picked up the other first place vote. Bismarck Century was fourth in voting with 31 points followed by Williston, 22 points; Jamestown, 16; Minot North, 14; and Bismarck High, 12. Teams received seven points for a first place vote; six for second place; five for third; four for fourth; three for fifth; two for sixth and one for seventh. Coaches did not include their team in voting.  The regular season gets underway on Friday, Aug. 23 with some non-counter matches and an individual round robin tournament hosted by Minot schools, weather permitting, on Aug. 24. Conference duals will begin later this month. The aforementioned Minot North Sentinels will make its debut in conference play this fall. The West Region Tournament will be hosted by Minot Public Schools in October.
