Minot High and Legacy again are 1-2 in tennis poll

BISMARCK – The usual suspects are at the top of the WDA preseason boys’ tennis rankings.

Minot High received five first place votes to go along with 34 total points in the preseason coaches’ poll to take the top spot while Bismarck Legacy was right behind with the other two first place votes and 32 points. 

The Magicians are the two-time defending WDA champion and West Region Tournament champion and reached the finals of the ND state team dual tournament before falling to G.F. Red River.

Mandan was third with 26 points while Bismarck High edged rival Bismarck Century for the fourth spot. BHS received 19 votes while Century earned 18. Williston is sixth with 11 points and Jamestown is seventh in voting with seven votes. 

The annual poll was conducted by Matt Mullally, WDA SID. Teams received six points for a first  place vote; five for a second place vote; four for a third place vote; two for a fifth place vote and one for a sixth place vote. Coaches did not vote for their own team.

The 2023 season gets underway on Friday, Aug. 25 for several teams taking part in 3-2 format matches hosted by Minot High. The Minot Round Robin tournament is on Aug 26.

This marks the 49th season of WDA/West Region play…Mandan will host the West Region Tournament, Oct. 5-7…The N.D. state team and individual tournament is in Grand Forks, Oct. 12-14…Minot North will play a JV schedule with the plan to move to varsity team dual play next season.
