Minot earns top spot in WDA preseason soccer poll

BISMARCK –  Minot High earned three first place votes and 44 total points to take the top spot in the 2023 preseason boys’ soccer coaches’ poll.

The Magicians are the two-time defending WDA regular season and WDA Tournament champion. 

Bismarck Legacy was second in voting with 40 total points. The Sabers also picked up three first place votes. 

Just one point separated third thru fifth place in voting.  Jamestown received 33 points and the other two first place votes. Bismarck High and Bismarck Century both received 32 points to tie for the fourth spot. 

Mandan was sixth in voting with 20 points. Williston was seventh with 13 points and Dickinson was eighth in preseason voting with 10 points.

The annual WDA poll was conducted by Matt Mullally, WDA SID/Executive Secretary. Teams received seven points for a first place vote; six points for second place; five points for third place; four points for fourth place; three points for fifth place; two points for sixth place; and one point for seventh place. Coaches did not vote for their own team.

The 2023 gets underway on Friday, Aug. 18 with a pair of non-conference matches. A handful more non-conference matches will be played on Saturday, Aug. 19. Conference begins the week of Aug. 21.

Bismarck Public Schools is hosting the WDA Tournament, Oct. 5 and 7 and the ND state tournament, Oct. 12-14.
