Minot defeats Mandan, 5-4

BISMARCK - Minot overcame a three-run deficit to edge Mandan 5-4 in a thrilling WDA Tournament Championship on May 23 at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark. It was the squad's first conference tourney crown since 2006.

Minot's offense was highlighted by a two-run fifth inning. Cody Deaver and Tanner Schindler each contributed with extra-base hits, with Deaver also scoring a run. Pitcher Ryan Anderson delivered five strong innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out three.

Mandan's offense came alive in the fourth inning with four runs, including a Jack Tooke homer to right field. Aaron Bogner and Mason Brahos each doubled, with Brahos scoring twice. Brahos also pitched four innings, striking out six. Mandan had the tying runner on third base with less than two outs in the sixth inning, but couldn't score. The game was a rematch of last year's title match with Mandan won. Minot High improved to 16-10 overall while Mandan is 16-15 overall.

Minot will face West Fargo Sheyenne (2-2) on May 28, while Mandan's next game is against Fargo South (0-2) on May 28 at the Class A Tournament in Minot.
