Mandan tops tennis coaches' poll

BISMARCK – Defending West Region Tournament champion Mandan returns a veteran squad, and with that, WDA coaches tabbed the Braves to win this season's conference boys' tennis title. Mandan picked up seven first place votes, the most it could obtain, and 49 points to take the top spot in the annual preseason poll. Legacy was second with 40 points and earned the other first place vote. Minot High was third followed by Jamestown in fourth; Century in fifth; Minot North, sixth; Williston, seventh; and Bismarck High, eighth.

Teams received seven points for a first place vote…six points for second…five for third place…four for fourth placed…three for sixth place…two for seventh place and one point for eighth. Coaches did not vote for their own teams.

The 51st season of WDA-sponsored play begins on Aug. 22 with non-counter duals among WDA teams. Minot will host its annual Early Bird individual tournament on Aug. 23. Mandan will host this year's West Region dual and individual tournaments in October. Grand Forks is again host for the state tournaments.
