BISMARCK – One WDA cross country championship wasn't enough for Bismarck High. The Demons swept both divisions at the conference meet on Oct. 14 at McDowell Dam recreation area, east of Bismarck. BHS' girls had five placers in the top 20 en route to defending its conference title. The Demon boys had eight runners finish in the top 20 to claim its first WDA crown since 2015. Legacy's Eva Selensky became the first Saber to win a conference girls' individual title. The junior who attends St. Mary's finished the 5,000 meters in a time of 18:41. Bismarck High's Bayla Weigel was runner-up. In the boys' race, Bismarck High's Owen Hintz was champion. The sophomore finished the course in 15:30. Thomas Haskins of Williston was runner-up. The top 20 finishers earned all-conference honors. Race conditions were pleasant with light winds and temperatures in the low 50s. Six teams – Bismarck High, Bismarck Century, Bismarck Legacy, Minot High, Watford City and Williston had at least one all-WDA finisher. Just four teams – Bismarck High, Jamestown, Minot High and Williston – had at least one all-conference runner in the boys' division. Bismarck High's Bayla Weigel and Parker Hintz were named region senior athletes of the year. BHS coaches Scott Reichenberger and Janelle Olson were named WDA coaches of the year.
