WATFORD CITY - In a back-and-forth West Region AA slugfest, Jamestown just landed a few more blows late. The Blue Jays would score twice in the fourth quarter to secure a 37-28 victory over Watford City on October 9 at Fred Fridley Field. The win snapped a five-game losing skid and keeps their playoff hopes alive in the West Region (1-2 Region; 2-5 overall). Watford City, meanwhile, fell to 1-2 in the AA West Region and 2-5 overall.
The player of the game was Watford City standout Trysten DeVries. He scored all four Wolves' touchdowns, including a thrilling 99-yard fumble return in the opening quarter. He finished with 197 yards rushing on 14 carries. WC's run-dominant offensive attack had 307 yards. However, that performance was eclipsed by the Blue Jays' balanced offense. Quarterback Brady Nenow threw for three scores and 213 passing yards. Wide receiver Edison Walters caught a pair of scores while Kale Verke caught one. Aiden Skari provided two scores on the ground. The Blue Jays finished with 155 rushing yards.
DeVries's TD in the fourth quarter regained the lead for WC, but Jamestown would answer with two of its own to get the victory. Looking ahead, Jamestown will face Minot North (2-1 WDA, 6-1 overall) on October 16, while Watford City prepares to meet St. Mary's (1-2 WDA, 3-4 overall) on the same date.
