Watford City defeats Wahpeton, 40-28

WAHPETON - Watford City earned its first win of the season, jumping out to an early lead en route to a 40-28 win at Wahpeton in Division AA play on Sept. 4 at Minn-Kota Ag Products Field. The victory was the Wolves' second-straight over Wahpeton.
Watford City dominated on the ground, amassing 483 rushing yards. Brogan Shannon was instrumental, scoring three touchdowns, including a 58-yard run. He finished with 146 yards on the ground. Rhylie Ledahl-Berger led the Wolves with 212 rushing yards and added two scores.
For Wahpeton, junior quarterback Jack Gilbertson showcased his dual-threat capability, throwing for 195 yards and rushing for 119 yards. Despite the loss, Gilbertson's performance was a highlight for the home team.
Watford City, which evened its mark at 1-1, will look to continue their momentum against neighboring Williston on September 11, while Wahpeton aims for their first win against Devils Lake, also on September 11.
