BISMARCK - Minot High got the start it wanted, and the Magicians had the lead early in the third quarter against rival Bismarck High. However, the turnover bug bit Minot High in a big way, and the Demons took advantage en route to a 28-14 conference-opening victory on Sept. 25 at MDU Resources Community Bowl.

An 55-yard interception return from Najeh Boyd tied the score for Bismarck High early in quarter three. And then fumble recovery fueled the Demon offense to punch in the eventual game-winning TD a few minutes later. Kaden Molenda's play-action rollout found Izaya Dockter in the right corner of the end zone. The Demons would tack on an insurance score when Molenda again rolled out and hit Jack Praska for an eight-yard pass play early in quarter four. Minot had a chance to cut into the deficit with a first and goal series at the seven-yard line. However, another interception ended the scoring threat.

The start was much more to the Magicians liking. The offense found success moving the football and the drive ended with Ryder Sutton's QB sneak. That lead held up until late in the half when BHS running back Cole Lardy bounced off tacklers from four yards. Minot wrestled the lead back in the opening possession of the third quarter. The key play was a Sutton to Logan Ludwig connection through the air that brought the ball into the red zone. Jalen Gunville then fought his way into the end zone and a 14-7 Minot lead. However, the game changed soon after.

The win improved Bismarck to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Minot High is still winless, but again showed signs of solid play.

Next, Bismarck will face Mandan (1-0 WDA, 3-2 overall) on October 1. Minot will look to rebound against Legacy (1-0 WDA, 4-1 overall) on October 2.
