DICKINSON - The Dickinson Midgets opened their season with a hard-fought victory, defeating Grand Forks Central 2-1 in a non-conference volleyball match. Dickinson improved to 1-0 overall, while Grand Forks Central dropped to 0-2.
In the first set, Dickinson took control early, showcasing a strong offensive presence. Key contributions came from senior outside hitter Emily Johnson, who led the team with several decisive kills. The Midgets' defense was anchored by libero Sarah Miller, who recorded numerous digs to keep rallies alive.
Grand Forks Central responded in the second set, leveling the match 1-1. Setter Ava Thompson orchestrated the Knights' attack efficiently, distributing assists that led to crucial points. The Knights' defensive efforts were highlighted by middle blocker Rachel Lee, who registered multiple blocks.
In the deciding set, Dickinson's teamwork and resilience shone through. The Midgets capitalized on a series of well-placed serves by sophomore Chloe Anderson, securing the final set and the match. Dickinson will face West Fargo next, while Grand Forks Central prepares for a matchup against Bismarck St. Mary's.
