BISMARCK - Bismarck St. Mary's secured a 3-1 victory over Williston on Tuesday night, marking their first Western Dakota Association win of the season. St. Mary's improved to 1-4 in the WDA and 2-9 overall, while Williston fell to 0-6 in the conference and 0-12 overall.
Mataya Messer led St. Mary's with an impressive 22 kills and contributed 18 digs, showcasing her all-around talent. Maggie Meyer was pivotal in setting up the offense, dishing out 30 assists and serving 4 aces. Lily Edinger added 11 kills and a block, while Sophia Link anchored the defense with 18 digs.
For Williston, Averi Austreim was the top performer with 7 kills and 16 digs. Alex Austreim facilitated the offense with 12 assists. Rylee Irgens led the defensive effort with 17 digs. Despite their efforts, Williston was unable to overcome St. Mary's momentum after winning the first set.
St. Mary's will look to build on this victory as they face Minot (4-1 WDA, 6-5 overall) on September 18. Williston will seek their first win of the season against Dickinson (2-2 WDA, 3-7 overall) on the same day.
