DEVILS LAKE - In a thrilling non-conference matchup, Devils Lake edged out Wahpeton 34-28, improving their record to 2-1 while Wahpeton fell to 0-3.
Devils Lake's Mason Palmer was instrumental in the victory, completing 16 of 24 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns. Palmer's precise passing, particularly a 10-yard touchdown to Weston Nelson, set the tone early. Bryar Exner contributed significantly on the ground with 237 rushing yards on 26 carries, including a crucial 14-yard touchdown run.
Wahpeton's Jack Gilbertson showcased his dual-threat capabilities, throwing for 210 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 86 yards. Gilbertson connected with Brayden Steffens for a 63-yard touchdown, keeping Wahpeton competitive throughout the game.
