BISMARCK - Grand Forks Red River edged past Bismarck St. Mary's with a narrow 14-13 victory in a non-conference matchup at Our Lady of Victory Stadium. The Roughriders improved to 1-1 overall, while the Saints fell to 0-2.
St. Mary's took an early lead in the second quarter with a 61-yard touchdown run by Beckett Price, followed by a successful extra point by Asher Coghlan. Price was a standout for the Saints, later adding a 58-yard touchdown run, though the subsequent kick failed.
Red River responded with a 4-yard touchdown run by Noah Brandvold, though the extra point attempt was unsuccessful. The Roughriders took the lead with a 3-yard run by Matt Dosch, who also completed a pass to Max Mannausau for the two-point conversion.
Despite a strong effort from St. Mary's, including a brief lead and a late-game push, Red River's defense held firm, notably making a crucial goal-line stand in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
