FARGO - Fargo North opened their season with a convincing 34-22 victory over Mandan, improving to 1-0 overall while Mandan fell to 0-1.
Kellen Dougherty led the way for Fargo North with a dual-threat performance, rushing for 44 yards and a touchdown, while also completing 4 of 8 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Jacob Sogge was his primary target, hauling in three receptions for 122 yards and two touchdowns.
Mandan's offense was highlighted by Brody Skalsky, who rushed for 103 yards on 13 carries. Quarterback Cole Carlson threw for 183 yards and a touchdown, connecting with Daniel Wentz for a 49-yard score.
This non-conference matchup marked the ninth all-time meeting between the teams, with Fargo North now leading the series 5-4. Last season, Fargo North managed only one win, making this opening victory a positive start.
