Girls Golf: East-West Classic
Event Recap
JAMESTOWN - Perennial power and reigning Class A state champion West Fargo Sheyenne bested the field to earn the title at the annual East-West Classic, Aug. 17-18 in Jamestown. The Mustangs carded a two-day total of 645 to edge EDC foe Fargo Shanley by six strokes. G.F. Red River was third with 669. Bismarck Legacy was the top WDA finisher, taking fourth with a 677 total. G.F. Red River junior Alex Fabian was medalist, finishing with a 149 score over 36 holes. Fabian shot a 74 on day one at Hillcrest G.C. and followed it up with a 75 at the Jamestown CC. Senior Ava Keene of WF Sheyenne was runner-up, two strokes back. Century's Ashlen Larson was third. The sophomore had a 154 total. Two other WDA golfers cracked the top 10 (Rawni Roemmich, Legacy; and Mikayla Schwindt, Dickinson).
Weather conditions over the two days were warm and pleasant with temps in the upper 70s and low 80s. The meet features teams from both the WDA and EDC. Century finished sixth; Minot High, seventh; Watford City, 11th; Mandan, 12th; Dickinson, 14th; St. Mary's, 17th; Minot North, 18th; Williston, 19th. Host Jamestown along with Bismarck High and TMCHS Belcourt also had golfers participate, but not enough for a scoring team.
