Minot North defeats Mandan, 3-2

MINOT - Minot North rallied from a 2-0 deficit to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over Mandan on Sept. 17 at Sentinal Gym. With this win, Minot North improved to 4-2 in the Western Dakota Association and 6-6 overall, while Mandan fell to 2-4 in the conference and 6-6 overall.
The match began with Mandan taking control early, winning the first two sets. However, Minot North gutted out a 25-22 win in set three to extend the match. It was back-and-forth again in set four, but the Sentinels won to force a fifth, and decisive set. The momentum gained carried North to the thrilling win. Elli Laskowski was a key figure for the Sentinels, registering a team-best 19 kills and 24 digs. Brynn Francis and LeAnne Sim got the offense in gear, posting 28 and 22 assists, respectively.
Mandan was on its game early and AnnaClaire Bugbee was a big part of the attack. She finished with a match-best 24 kills. Sierra Gustavsson's 48 assists helped get the offense in gear. Hadley Harris had another strong match from the back row, tallying 34 digs. Kennedy Keller added 29.
Looking ahead, Minot North will face Jamestown, who are currently 4-0 in the WDA and 8-2 overall, on September 18. Mandan will prepare to meet Legacy, with a 5-1 conference record and 8-4 overall, on September 22.
