BISMARCK - Century again saw a second half lead evaporate, this time West Fargo Sheyenne rallied, defeating the Patriots 20-14 on Sept. 11 at MDU Resources Community Bank. Landon Hanson hauled in a pair of TD passes for the Mustangs, the big one coming late in the third quarter. His catch and run covered 72 yards and gave WFS a lead it would not give up.

The first half was again strong for Century as running back Carter Wylde scored a pair of TDs. The first coming less than two minutes into the contest. His second was a 21-yard scamper, weaving past WF Sheyenne defenders. WF Sheyenne got on the board in the second quarter when quarterback Cole Martin scrambled and found running back Chase Clemenson behind the secondary. He caught the ball and turned up field to outrun oncoming defenders.

The third quarter saw Sheyenne tie the score when Hanson cut to the post and Martin found him in the end zone from 10 yards. Adjustments by WFS defense in the second half made things challenging for Century to move the ball. The Pats did march the ball into Mustang territory in the final minutes, but the Sheyenne D prevented the big play. West Fargo Sheyenne will next face Mandan, who holds a 1-2 overall record, on September 18. Century will look to get its first win when it faces West Fargo, also on September 18. The last time Century began, 0-3, was in 2022. That season the squad was 0-5 before going 5-1 the rest of the way, and finishing runner-up to Fargo Shanley.
