WEST FARGO - Things didn't look too promising for Mandan early in its non-conference game at WF Sheyenne on Sept. 18 at Mustang Stadium. The offense commited an early turnover and looked out of sorts. The host Mustangs took advantage and built an early 14-0 lead. However, the Braves found their footing in the second quarter thanks to the running of Tate Sailer. He scored a trio of TDs in the quarter, including a 72-yard scamper to give the Braves the lead. However, WFS would score twice in a less than a minute in the final stages of the half to regain the lead.

However, this night would belong to Mandan. The team scored twice in the second half and keeping Sheyenne off the board to earn a hard-fought 33-28 win. Sailer was the difference maker rushing for 305 yards on 32 carries and four TDs. WF Sheyenne took a blow in the second quarter when standout QB Cole Martin left the game due to an injury. The win was Mandan's first-ever over the Mustangs and evened its mark at 2-2 heading into conference play against Century on Sept. 25.
