WAHPETON - Devils Lake trailed 38-27 entering the final quarter, but rallied for a thrilling 50-44 non-region victory over Wahpeton on Sept. 12. Offense was the name of the game as the teams combined for 1,044 yards on the ground and through the air.

Devils Lake running back Egan Laite delivered an outstanding performance, rushing for a score-record 380 yards on 35 carries and scoring four touchdowns. His efforts were instrumental in the team's come-from-behind win. DL signal callers Talan Gregory and Ben Brodina each completed six passes and combined for two scores. William Heilman caught five for 78 yards and both TDs.

Wahpeton playmaker Jack Gilbertson showcased his dual-threat capabilities, passing for 262 yards and rushing for 250 yards. He was especially impressive in the third quarter when the Huskies took the lead. Cayden Barth had two receptions for TDs for Wahpeton. The Firebirds improved to 2-1 while Wahpeton fell to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Devils Lake will face Fargo South, who are 0-3 overall, on September 18. Wahpeton will prepare to take on St. Mary's, currently 1-2 overall, on the same date.
