DICKINSON - Three wins doesn't seem like a significant milestone, but it is this season for the Dickinson Mavericks. The squad's 28-12 Homecoming win over G.F. Central on Sept. 11 at Biesiot Activities Center signifies more victories than earned all of last season. This year's squad has it sights on bigger things, however.

The victory over the previously-unbeaten the Knights was impressive in many ways. The Mavericks' offense was clicking and its defense stifled a GFC offense which put 40 points a week ago.

Running back Wyatt Turner led the charge for Dickinson, scoring two touchdowns on the ground, including a spectacular 55-yard run. On a third down, Turner broke a tackle and outran the Grand Forks Central secondary. Quarterback Nathan Stevenson did his part, leading the offense with his legs and arm. He first connected with Jesse Hammond for a 25-yard score in the opening quarter. He then found Paxton Lyson for a 22-yard touchdown at the end of quarter two.

Grand Forks Central's offense was highlighted by Carson Kotraba's impressive 22-yard touchdown run, where he broke several tackles to reach the end zone. However, GFC struggled to move the ball, especially in the air, largey due to Dickinson's pass rush and athletic secondary that broke up passes and had a pair of intercepions.

Looking ahead, Dickinson will have a big test against a good Central Cass, who holds a 2-1 record, on September 18. Grand Forks Central is set to play Watford City, currently 2-1 overall, on the same date.
